What are some problems/challenges/issues that you specialize in?
We specialize in: • Clients struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms related to communication patterns, childhood experiences, military service, and racial identity, so that they may gain the necessary tools and strategies to develop healthy relationships with themselves and others. • Asian American transracial adoptees, 1.5 & 2nd Gen immigrants, and/or multiracial and multiethnic Asian Americans seeking to resolve questions of identity to develop a loving, stable definition of who they are. • People of Color to process their racial trauma(s) so that they may find inner balance and harmony. • Individuals experiencing inner conflict and/or with feelings of "being stuck” with perfectionism, people-pleasing, caretaking, overthinking, and self-criticism, so that they may become aware of and give voice to different parts of themselves. Couples experiencing relationship difficulties so that they may gain the necessary tools to maintain healthy connections.
How often should I expect to meet with you?
How often we meet is dependent on where you are in your journey. Usually we meet with a patient around 2-4 times per month, but the frequency may change based on your progress, goals, and schedule. We also offer a free 15-minute consultation so that we can figure out if we are a good fit. This allows you to see our approach and decide for yourself if you want to continue. If we aren't a good fit, we can help you in finding someone who is.
What is the minimum age requirement for Sung Therapy clients?
We only serve clients 18 years of age or older. If you are younger than 18 years old, we are unable to take you on as a client at this time.
What if I had a bad therapy experience in the past?
If you've had a bad therapy experience in the past, you've already taken a big step forward by looking for a new therapist. No one deserves to be mistreated by a mental health professional. I thank you for trying anew and I offer a space to heal from your past experiences.
Do you take LGBTQIA+ and/or neurodivergent patients?
Yes, we take both LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent patients. We affirm who you are in your journey of both gender identities, sexual orientations, and/or neurodivergence. We celebrate the diverse intersections of all of your identities and welcome you in to a space of healing, exploration, and complete authenticity.
Can I work with you even if I'm not sure what's "wrong"?
Yes you can. You can start therapy without a diagnosis or a major crisis. Many clients start therapy because something doesn't feel "right" in their life. Whether you are feeling sad, stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or questioning who you are, we offer a space to freely begin to explore those thoughts and feelings.
What if I'm scared to start therapy?
It is completely normal to feel scared or nervous about starting therapy. Whether it's your first time or you're starting again, it's not easy to open up to someone new. Even if it's things you've already explored or if it's about things you've kept hidden for a long time. You are not alone in that feeling, and at Sung Therapy, we welcome you to take this journey into therapy at your own pace. You don’t need to have the “right” words, a clear plan, or even know exactly what you want to work on. Starting therapy is a courageous step, not because you have all the answers about yourself, but because you’re willing to explore them. We are here to build trust with you over time, offer support without pressure, and co-create a space where you feel safe to be yourself, no matter where you’re starting from.
What can I expect otherwise?

15-minute consultation appointment
During the brief consultation appointment, potential clients will have the opportunity to meet me and to share whatever feels right for that moment. Please note that I also reserve the right to decline taking you on as a client if we are not a good fit.
90-minute psychiatric diagnostic evaluation
After the 15-minute consultation appointment, I will ask you to take time to consider if you feel that I have something to offer you in your journey. If the answer is yes, you can return to SungTherapy.com and schedule a 90-minute psychiatric diagnostic evaluation appointment; we will be using evidence-based assessment tools to evaluate your symptoms.
First 4-5 psychotherapy sessions
We will further assess your needs during the next four to five 50-minute psychotherapy sessions by answering the question, "What happened to you?" These sessions are aimed at examining the various systems, i.e. family, friends, schools, neighborhoods, among others that shaped who you are today and their present day impact on you, vis-a-vis your current symptoms.
Subsequent psychotherapy sessions
We will work together to develop SMART treatment goals to address the issues that emerged during evaluation appointments. Our time together, or the length of treatment, will depend on the treatment goal(s) we set.
Periodic evaluations (every 6-12 months)
Treatment goals will be periodically evaluated to ensure that our time together is having a desired impact; this is a good time for us to make adjustments, as needed, to achieve the stated outcomes in your treatment plan. Periodic evaluations are necessary to help us to take pause and reflect on our time together; they are also part of the growth and learning process.
